Allow me to clarify my goal:
I have roughly 16 weeks to prepare to run 44km in under 5 hours. My official goal that I will share here is to come in under the 5 hour mark (4:59:59 would be totally sufficient).
I thought a better way of training for this might be to share my adventures online, rather than endless rants to colleagues/friends about how things are coming along.
This year I had a few things on my resolution/bucket list and running a marathon was high up there. I'd done some* research and was content that San Francisco met all of my** criteria - a city I've never been to, an interesting course, and a marathon in the spring time.
A colleague prompted me to start a blog (probably so that she wouldn't have to suffer through daily training updates) and I took this as an opportunity to get back into writing, using an avenue to share my training victories/struggles, and really make sure I had this entire experience on paper...well, on internet.
That being said, I'll get right into how my first week is going. I'll do my best to be honest, detail routes, meals, and other pertinent running info. I'll apologize for writing conversationally but in this beautiful blog of mine, the thoughts will most likely come streaming, unedited, and unfiltered - grammar, proper words, and any particular style will not be included.
Monday: Strength training. Wasn't feeling 100% so it consisted of sit ups, push ups, burpee's, and a long walk (45 minutes). Should have used more weights, etc., but I was limited to the confines of my apartment due to laziness.
Tuesday: Got away from me. Reunion with an old co-worker, a few glasses of wine, a lovely salad, and then home in bed. No working out happened...
Wednesday: 5km. Up hill both ways (kidding!), but I did run through my new neighborhood, which will provide many new routes, and ran to Casa Loma where I ran the stairs 6 times to start hill training prep (it's 104 stairs each way for those who always wondered)
Tomorrow night is crossfit, and the Friday is another run. Saturday and Sunday: a spin, weights, and a long run Sunday night...you'll see Tuesday has already altered my first week, but hey - merely a guideline, right?
Hoping to add into the lifestyle will be:
- 5 minutes of skipping each day (just to get the heart rate going in the morning)
- taking the stairs at work (boo)
And here is the race, in case you feel like joining in: http://www.thesfmarathon.com/
*little research was done
** I should clarify, I'll write first person but I am running with a close friend who was equally involved in race selection (and will probably appear a lot in this training)
